Families keep photos for decades, so it's worth knowing what happens when the person who set everything up is no longer able to manage it — through illness, a lost account, or death.
With a second admin, nothing breaks#
If the hub has another admin, they simply carry on. They can invite and remove people, manage the plan, and take over billing. Every member keeps seeing the same albums throughout.
This is the entire reason to add a second admin, and why it's mentioned on nearly every page in this section. It costs seconds now and it's the difference between an inconvenience and a problem.
Without one, the photos are still there#
If the only admin can no longer act, the hub's members keep seeing its albums exactly as before. Nothing is deleted and nobody is locked out of looking at the family's photos.
What's lost is the ability to manage the hub: nobody can invite someone new, remove anyone, or change the plan. And if the subscription lapses, the hub goes read-only in the usual way — see If the hub payment stops — which still leaves everything viewable and downloadable.
Getting the hub back under someone's control#
Contact support. This is handled individually rather than by an automatic process — handing control of a family's archive to someone else isn't a thing that should happen on a form, and we'd rather take the time to get it right than build something fast that gets it wrong.
Tell us which hub it is and what's happened, and we'll work through it with you.
In the meantime, everyone can take their own copies#
Whatever's happening with the hub's administration, every member can still get the photos out — and it's worth doing rather than waiting:
Do this now instead#
Open your hub and make one other person an admin. Your partner, an adult child, a sibling — someone who would still be reachable if you weren't.
It's the one action on this page that takes less than a minute and makes the rest of it unnecessary. See Admins and members.
