Hub storage and billing

Photos in a Keepr Family Hub album use the hub's shared storage, whoever uploaded them, and the hub's plan — not the uploader's — decides how they're stored. One admin holds the subscription; everyone else uses the hub without a payment method. Paying yearly is the equivalent of two months free.

A hub has one storage allowance and one subscription. This page is about which of those applies when.

Photos in a hub use the hub's storage#

Whoever uploads them. Someone on a free personal account can add photos to a hub all day without touching their own 5 GB, because the space comes from the hub.

The reverse is also true: your personal albums always use your personal storage, even while you're a member of a large hub.

The hub's plan decides how its photos are kept#

This is the part that surprises people, and it's worth being explicit about.

Anything stored in a hub follows the hub's plan, not the plan of the person who uploaded it. So:

  • A member with a small personal plan uploading into a large hub gets that hub's treatment — including print-ready originals, if the hub's plan includes them.
  • A member with a large personal plan uploading into a small hub does not carry their benefits in with them.

In other words, the destination decides. See Photo and video quality for what that actually changes.

One person pays#

One admin is the billing admin and holds the subscription. Everyone else uses the hub without a payment method of their own, which is the point — a family shouldn't need five subscriptions to share one archive.

Billing can be handed to another admin if the right person to hold it changes.

Seeing where the space has gone#

Admins can see how much of the hub each member is using. That turns "we're out of space" from a mystery into a conversation — usually about a few very large videos rather than anyone's photos.

If the hub is filling up, there are two useful moves before paying more:

  • Remove originals you no longer need. On plans that keep the untouched camera file, those files are the bulk of the usage — and removing them keeps the photo. See Free up space after printing.
  • Review duplicate stacks, which show how much space near-identical shots are taking. See Duplicate stacks.

Changing plan#

Moving up or down doesn't disturb the hub's contents — the albums, photos, members and permissions stay as they are. Paying yearly is the equivalent of two months free on every paid plan.

Current prices and what each plan includes are on the pricing page, which stays correct in a way a help page can't.

If a payment fails#

Nothing is deleted. See If the hub payment stops.

Common questions

If I upload to a hub, does it use my personal storage?
No. Photos in a hub album use the hub's shared storage, whoever uploaded them.
Whose plan decides photo quality — mine or the hub's?
The hub's. An upload into a hub album is governed by the hub's plan; an upload into your own personal album is governed by yours.
Can we see who is using the space?
Yes. Admins can see usage per member, so a full hub is a conversation rather than a mystery.
Does paying yearly cost less?
Yes — paying yearly works out at the equivalent of two months free, on every paid plan.
